The Twelve Days of Decorating

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Christian Ursino and I wrote this little ditty last year, and I think it’s the perfect time to ressurect it for the holiday season:

The Twelve Days of Decorating

Instead of rehashing the same old holiday decorating tips again and again (okay, okay… here’s your tip: just use candles – lots of them!), we thought it would be more fun to lighten up and celebrate the season with a group sing-along. So pour yourself a hot cocoa or a hot toddy and get ready to sing The Twelve Days of Decorating.

Robin and Christian Hanging with HGTV’s Vern Yip

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Here we are at the 2009 Eye On Design event at The Seattle Design Center. Christian was on a design panel moderated by Vern, and we were lucky enough to have had a loooong interview with him about a month ago in preparation for this event for the two publications we write design articles for: 425 Magazine and The Journal Newspapers.

Yes, Vern is as cool and hip as he seems on TV!

Our Most Recent 425 Magazine Issue

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

Here is the cover shot of 425 Magazine – of which Christian Ursino and I regularly write a design column. This issue (as you might guess by the cover) has a bridal focus and our article specifically addresses combining two separate households into one.

One of my favorite tips that we share is that we give you permission to let go of items that no longer suit you – even if it’s a family heirloom! It can be a bit scary to let go of something that other family members have placed great import upon, but if it doesn’t work for your new life, it’s okay to let it go to another home.

We love writing for 425 Magazine, it’s beautifully designed and focuses on Eastside living.

Northwest Designers Showcase Event

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Friday night I attended the opening party for a designer showcase event called The Northwest Designer Showcase, presented by Glenn Richards.

Glenn Richards is this great store in Seattle featuring a huge space filled with antique Chinese and Japanese furniture, architectural elements and accessories from all over Southeast Asia. Downstairs you’ll find a very cool furniture designer, Rom Lee, who uses many reclaimed items and beautiful wood elements in his custom designs.

The itinerant proprietors of Glenn Richards (pictured above) John and Laurie Fairman have decided to create a gallery space within their store, and from now through November 17th, you’ll find different rooms decorated by local designers:

Lisa Staton, Kathleen Williams, Rachel Marez of Fix Design, Rom Lee, and of course Christina Ursino!

Each installation in their gallery space will be quite different, with plans to feature specific artists and let them have a run at the space.Kudos to that!

Here are some more images from the showcase (and yes, we happily provided the designers with all the C2 Paint they desired! We LOVE designers!)

Here’s Lisa Staton in her luxurious living room (a little alliteration on a Monday never hurt anyone…). Note too, that Lisa just had a baby 8 weeks ago AND pulled off a showcase room…

Christian outdid himself AGAIN designing a dining room – I think my favorite touch is the leopard pattern on the dining chairs.

Speaking of babies, Rachel Marez of Fix Design Studio was worried that her baby bump wouldn’t look good on camera… as if that is a worry! And look at the cool bathroom she created too!

Kathleen Williams created a romantic bedroom that just GLOWED – I only wish my camera could do justice to these spaces! Sigh…

I love our Readers

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

A couple of weeks ago, Christian and I published a Favorites survey. People have been filling out the newspaper form and mailing them in! Also, they can go online and fill it out – it’s very interesting to see what people are thinking. You can really tell what neighborhood they come from simply by looking at the favorite stores they list.

Radio fav’s range from NPR to oldies. Cleaning products go from vinegar to homemade with essential oils (I’m always so impressed with people who can take the time to craft things like that!) to high-end products like Calderra. We’ve had more than one shout-out for Dove as favorite soap! I think a standout answer is to the category of Housecleaner: “You never indulge this info!”

I’m not sure how we’ll publish the answers, it should be interesting!
