And… even though summer is now behind us, it’s not too early to get your painter lined up for next season! This summer was a weather-bust, so some jobs have been pushed forward to next summer – so get in line now!
Our friends at California Paint (despite the name, it’s a New England paint company!), have posted a great article/palette on historic New England colors. At Daly’s Paint we are always on the lookout for inspirational material, and this article shows a great progression of colors over time. Enjoy!
“Do they make a paint you can use to paint over linoleum tiles?”
Daly’s Answer:
The quick answer to your question: Yes… and No.
The long answer:
Pratt & Lambert makes a great floor paint called WithStand Latex Floor Enamel. It’s available in all colors in the P&L palette, so you aren’t limited in color choice. It’s designed to be a bit flexible, so it will adhere to softer surfaces like linoleum tiles. Will it last as long as a new floor surface? No. But if you are looking for a solution to get you by until you can replace the existing floor, then this is a good option to consider.
You’ll want to make sure your floor is super clean and free of oily or waxy build-up to ensure best adhesion. Wash the floor with TSP or TSP Substitute, rinse well and dry. While the paint will dry in a few hours, it takes a few weeks for it to fully cure, so you’ll want to treat is gently at first.

Fremont, where the Seattle Daly’s Paint & Decorating store is located, is a great neighborhood that celebrates individualism and actively promotes it’s unique qualities. Where else on earth will you find the Troll Under the Bridge, The Center of The Universe (really!), and other wacky symbols that let you know this is a different place?
It is also populated with colorful people that help make this a neighborhood to enjoy. The ‘Fremocentrist’ blog is powered by Kirby Lindsay – if you want to know what’s going on, who’s doing what, and where things are happening, she’s your Girl Friday.
Kirby recently wrote a nice piece on Larry – who just happens to work at Daly’s and live in the neighborhood. He’s a real Fremonster. We’ve always enjoyed having colorful people working at Daly’s, and it’s nice to see that recognized elsewhere, too!
I want to share with you an article that just appeared in Pratt & Lambert’s Personal Expressions magazine. Featured is our NEW Bellevue Daly’s store – we are so proud of it, and very pleased that P&L thought it looked good enough to put in their national publication.
What a pleasure and suprise to open the mail and pull out this HUUUGE window sticker from Google designating Daly’s Paint as a ‘Favorite Place’ on Google maps!
How cool to get such nice feedback from out great customers, and ‘Thanks’ to Google, too!
Now I’m off to go find the best spot to display the sticker…
Here’s a quick spruce-up tip from our Daly’s Facebook page:
Facebook Daly’s Paint & Decorating: ” In-laws coming? Uninspiring guest room? Blah bathroom? Here’s my favorite spruce-up trick…The Feature Wall. Instead of repainting an entire room, find a lovely color and paint it on one wall only. This is a great way to create a focal point (and a favored trick to redierect the eye from flaws in the room) and it adds… a fresh look without too much effort. (I’m all about avoiding TOO MUCH EFFORT during the holidays!)”
This spring we moved from Downtown Bellevue (where we have been since 1961) over to the Northup neighborhood. We looked for almost 2 years before we found the right place to call ‘home’. But it was worth the wait!
We love our new digs and our new neighbors. What we weren’t sure about was how moving a business that had been on the same corner since 1978 would transpire.
Luckily, no major disasters occurred. Well – we lost one of our tint machines because the movers tipped it over while unloading it. Oops.
But we kept our sense of humor and got the new store up and running. The worst part? Cleaning up 30+ years of crusty tint room build-up in the old place!
This ‘dress’ is actually constucted of Antonina Vella “Selene” wallpaper that is covered in a delicate filigree design made from gorgeous glass beads and subtly colored background paper. Tasty! (And yes, you can get it from Daly’s!)
One of the fun things the staff has been doing lately is come up with creative headlines for the reader-board on the Seattle Daly’s sign. Being a creative staff, the sayings aren’t always… shall we say, ‘tasteful’. The challenge is to use a C2 Paint or Daly’s Products reference in the headline.
So in that spirit, here is my favorite saying that you WON’T be seeing on the Daly’s sign:
