This 1960's home is being upgraded with a clean-lined contemporary aesthetic (heated floors! natural fir trim! Low-impact eco-materials!), all under the watchful supervision of the shop dog.
During the walkthru today we determined that the walls are going to be painted C2 Paint's "Shiitake" in the Luxe Matte wall finish. "Shiitake" is a warm neutral, that will help balance the influx of green light from the garden, so the walls won't feel too beigy or too gray.
The ceiling is a major visual component, and we had two goals: 1) we didn't want it to feel too heavy by being painted too dark or 2) be painted white, because this would direct attention upwards to the ceiling and create too much contrast.
The solution? We are going to test the "Shiitake" wall color at both 50% and 25%, to determine which formulation will create a seamless transition between the walls and ceiling. The ceiling will be painted in a flat finish to minimize any irregularities in the expanse of the ceiling.
