Sue Ellen, our talented display designer, has really pulled out the stops and has constructed these fanciful summer frocks out of Thibaut wallpapers. We just love the subtle metallic gleam these papers have, and how they look beguilingly real!

Imagine how these designs would look on a wall… The metallic inks keep the color and design from becoming boring and blah, but because the designs are so sophisticated, it avoids the ‘trendy’ pitfall altogether.

NWSID event at the Bellevue Daly's - it's all about WALLPAPER!!

NWSID event - there's always time for champagne and conversation!

Last week our Bellevue Daly’s Paint store hosted the monthly NWSID meeting, and it was all about WALLPAPER!!!  3rd generation paperhanger, Elgie Gibson, was the keynote speaker - plus Daly’s had the opportunity to get up and talk about the trends we are seeing in the industry right now.

Here’s a quick rundown of our favorite trends:

• Grasscloth
• Hand-Crafted Papers
• Textures
• Vinyls
• Bold Graphics
• Retro

While Grassclothhas never gone out of style, we are selling more of this handsome texture than almost any paper. Grasscloths are made from real grasses that are hand-knotted and glued to a paper substrate – no two strips are alike. Perfect for studies and dining rooms. If you are wanting that high-end look, but it is going into a bathroom, then Vinyl is the way to go. Vinyl has the reputation for being ugly and utilitarian – while still highly practical, today’s vinyls are also quite stylish. Some are so convincing, you would be hard-pressed to tell the difference from Grasscloth! Vinylsalso come is a broad range of colors and patterns. We feel the best ones are the vinyls that take advantage of their contemporary edge – highly textured and sculptural. Vinyl can really take advantage of it’s medium and exploit it’s maleable character to add dimension to a wall.

Hand-Crafted papers are another category that is getting a lot of attention – these papers are often hand-painted and texturized, turning your walls into works of art. Many times you can work with the manufacturer to choose custom colors.

Textures are a hot trend: Shimmery, pearlescent, even metallic copper threads being interwoven into grasscloth. The story is all about metallic shimmer instead of over-the-top glitz. Think of it as tasteful bling for hte walls!

Imagine taking a steadfast, traditional damask pattern and blowing it to over-scale and rendering it in modern colors… You are seeing the Bold Graphics trend in action. These patterns are a great way to wake-up a traditional space and add some pizazz without going overboard. Often used as a feature wall pattern or in small spaces, like powder rooms for high impact.

Whats old is new again, and we are seeing Retro designs, like art deco graphics and florals, being used in all kinds of fresh ways. To the modern eye, Retro patterns done on old presses have a real charm and hand-crafted quality that digital printing can’t achieve.
